For FootZone Bend, it is all about the community. That has remained a constant for the 26 years they have been in business. Whether its through group runs, charitable giving campaigns, being a meeting ground for new and experienced runners, or providing training groups, FootZone is committed to fostering community, not just selling shoes.

FootZone prides themselves on being a connector for people who love running and walking, but it’s more than that. It’s a place to find good footwear for daily work and everyday life. If you work a job where you’re on your feet all day, are a nurse in the hospital, or just have feet that are killing you, the excellent customer service that will help address each unique situation is what makes FootZone stand out. Consistent one on one customer service through fit process, phenomenal staff expertise, and 3D shoe fitting are just a few ways that they provide a top-of-the-line experience for each person that walks in their door.

Naturally, COVID has affected FootZone’s business. According to Mark Stockamp, FootZone’s marketing manager, one of the biggest challenges the store has faced during COVID is, “Staying connected to the customer base and communicating with them.” It has been tough making sure people know that they are open. Because of restrictions on how many people they can have in the store at once, the traffic has been less than normal.

Despite the challenges, perhaps more positives have ultimately been gained through being forced to pivot and adapt. “COVID forced us to do a lot of things quickly, one thing was getting onto ECOMM. A year ago, we didn’t have it! It’s huge and it’s going to stay. It’s were we want to grow,” Stockcamp said. Another silver lining during the pandemic has been the opportunity to “beautify the shop.” The layout is more open, which gives the store a more focused feel. Every item they sell is part of a purposefully curated collection.

With the darkest days behind them, (literally and figuratively) FootZone is looking towards the future and is feeling optimistic. They are looking forward to holding training groups, being a part of races, and most importantly gathering as a community. Mark summed up their excitement well saying, “We are incredibly grateful for all of the support the community has showed us this past year even during COVID. It’s been incredible to still be here, because a lot of businesses have had to close. We are super excited to grow and move forward with the community!”

One common mistake that we make as customers is to think that a store is doing fine, when in reality every store needs continued support. It is important that as customers, (and we are all customers of someone) we remember a few things that can help small businesses like FootZone. Stay positive! Become a long-term customer. Stop in. Shop (of course!). Write positive reviews. As FootZone continues to grow in new ways, community remains their number one priority. We are so glad to be a part of it.
